Where to celebrate Valentines

Valentine's Day Geneva and around

In a small city such a Geneva can get hard to be creative or find cute places to celebrate Valentines, so we have selected a few for all tastes to celebrate with any love one, friends, family or you cheri. Enjoy!

Anne-Sophie Pic

Drawing on the flavours and seasonal ingredients of her childhood home as well as local Swiss produce, Pic creates imaginative, beautifully presented dishes that have earned the restaurant two Michelin stars and 18 Gault Millau points.

It’s an intimate, cosy kind of place, so in winter it’s best to book early to secure one of the few tables indoors. However the real draw – apart from the food – is the serene rooftop terrace that looks out on to Lake Geneva and the jet d’eau.

Your culinary road-trip could include Japanese tuna sashimi, Jamaican jerk chicken, Vietnamese spring rolls or Tunisian-style salad – choose carefully, lest you arrive at a palate-confusing combination. Plates are small, so you need multiples to make a decent-sized dinner (this is no cheap night out), but the quality is high.

Drawing on seasonal, local ingredients, the food is delicate, original and classy without being over fussy. The côte de veau is so tender it falls off the knife, a ceviche starter is an explosion of flavour, while the homemade foie gras served with buttery toasted brioche is rich and moreish.

One of the best places for a cocktail in Geneva, the drinks in this small neighbourhood bar are a cut above the over-priced, sickly creations in some of the city’s flashier city-centre bars.

Les BoucaniersWhile at first glance the menu of burgers, salads and tapas seems nothing special, the globally-inspired burgers (from Japanese tuna to Thai chicken and French foie gras and duck) are original and sophisticated.La Verre à MoniqueThis is the sort of place that makes you forget you’re in Geneva. A self-proclaimed speakeasy, it evokes the dirty glamour and clandestine excitement of prohibition-era America. Its 1920s shabby-chic style is a cross between your granny’s sitting room and a charity shop in Kensington – think vintage glasses, mismatched chairs, crystal vases and kitsch knick knacks including a ceramic bird in a cage.

Tucked away in Lausanne’s medieval Cité – which you might think would be overrun with restaurants, but strangely isn’t – is this lovely little bistrot serving the food of chef Anthony Macé.

Unassuming from the outside, Le Furet Restaurant is known for its delicious all-you-can eat platters of garlic prawns (gambas), which are served with piles of tasty fries. This place comes recommended by Bert Bevans - the legendary DJ and music producer from New York's Studio 54 and London's Ministry of Sound.
